Our History
Pennine Flooring Supplies was set up in 1976 by Doctor Tony Gladstone and originally traded as Northern Cork Supplies with its own retail outlet on Rooley Moor Road in Rochdale. Northern Cork offered all forms of cork – rolls, sheets, wall and floor tiles,
In 1986 Northern Cork expanded by opening a depot in the heart of the Lake District in Kendal. Shortly afterwards the company’s name changed to Pennine Flooring Supplies to reflect the greater variety of products the company was now offering.
Bigger, newer premises were bought in Heywood in 1990, our head office and main warehousing facility, shortly followed by a depot in Carlisle that took over the business from the Kendal address.
The next major step for the company came in July 2004 with the purchase of Panhurst Ltd, a small, family run distributor based on the outskirts of Chester. This gave Pennine Flooring a much greater penetration into the flooring markets in Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales.
In 2011 the Chester branch moved to larger premises in Sandycroft, followed by the Carlisle branch moving to a brand new, brighter & more spacious premises in Kingmoor Park Central in 2019. Finally, the head office in Heywood moved from their cramped warehouse at Phoenix Close to a 28,000sqft warehouse that was totally refurbished in 2021.
